Overview

How do you tell and honor the almost 50 years (and counting) history of an organization creating unprecedented opportunities for Denver families and children? This challenge was posed to the OMF web team while working with longstanding client Gary Community Investment Company/The Piton Foundation (GCIC).

Working together, OMF and GCIC developed an engaging, storytelling timeline to feature the history, accomplishments and growth that made GCIC the organization it is today and defined its priorities moving forward. One of the timeline’s primary goals was to elaborate on how GCIC’s history has driven them to become the organization they are today. GCIC is committed to using business and philanthropy together to help address problems facing children and families.

With such a unique project, the OMF web team was able to immerse themselves in the GCIC history learning far more about the organization than they even knew there was to learn. Additionally, the project helped further challenge the team’s problem solving and big picture planning - from content curation to choreographing of multiple animation and delving into coding not typically used by the team. “As a designer working on the project, it was a honor to create an online experience where website users could be completely immersed in Gary Community Investments’ story through photos, audio video, graphics, and animation,” explains Sharee Hiatt, Senior Designer.

GCIC’s dedication to their mission is evident in their strong web presence. The sustainable technology provided by the Open Media Foundation will be an enduring foundation on which even more future technology can be easily built. Combined with a passionate and experienced staff, the Open Media Foundation leverages open source tools and provides a 50% matching grant to ensure that the expense and complexity of web technology is not a barrier to any organization's' mission.
