POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Open Media Foundation seeks an experienced Senior UX & Visual Designer with a commitment to using their skills to make the world a better place. Our top candidate will have a passion for OMF’s mission and a desire to support the community and contribute to the greater good.

As Senior UX & Visual Designer at OMF, you will shape and leverage our innovative and ever-changing user experience process to design high quality websites, applications and other platforms. You will lead the entire design process, from early discovery and user experience design through to visual design templates and hand-off to development. We need someone who is experienced in conducting user research, interviewing stakeholders, building personas & user stories and translating all of those into solid site maps and wireframes that follow the latest usability best practices. We need someone who in equally experienced in designing a strong, branded, visually appealing website from that UX foundation. We need with experience in designing logos, branding guidelines, print collateral and the occasional annual report. So, yes, we want it all. We want someone adept at both UX design AND visual design - a one person design dynamo. You should enjoy creating detailed and beautiful user experiences. We know you are up to date on the latest and greatest design tools, but you should know when to get hands on with pencil and paper. We are big believers in user-centered design and hope you are too. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

User-centered Web Design / Wireframing ~40%

  • Organize and facilitate discovery meetings with clients
  • Conduct stakeholder interviews, user interviews, stakeholder mapping and site planning workshops with clients
  • Develop personas and user stories
  • Create Sitemaps & Wireframes for basic and complex sites based on industry-standard user experience concepts
  • Present and defend wireframes and key deliverables to peers and clients/stakeholders
  • Produce storyboards, user flows, process flows and use cases, as needed
  • Work hand-in-hand with developers to ensure feasible website designs
  • Provide direction to freelance designers, when needed

Website Visual Design ~40%

  • Facilitate meeting with client to understand visual needs
  • Document Creative Briefs to confirm visual guidelines with clients
  • Execute all visual design stages from concept to final hand-off to development
  • Ability to create modern, high quality, unique, and aesthetically pleasing website designs that meet the client’s goals and brand standards
  • Direct photo shoots for imagery, when necessary
  • Present and defend Visual Design Templates and key deliverables to peers and executive level stakeholders

Branding & Print Design ~10%

 

  • Create logos, brand guidelines and print materials for clients
  • Own and design all internal OMF collateral including brochures, business cards, marketing materials, annual reports and fundraising materials

New Business Support and General Administration ~10%

  • Work with Account Director to properly scope and estimate level of effort for new business opportunities
  • Provide content for proposals, as needed
  • Participate in company meetings and events, including fundraising events; be a steward for OMF in the community

REQUIRED SKILLS & TRAITS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study
  • 5+ years experience in digital design
  • A strong portfolio of website wireframing and visual designs, preferably with branding and logo design examples

  • Comfortable presenting and defending work to clients
  • Work well with developers and project managers

BONUS SKILLS & TRAITS

  • A solid understanding of how to design for Drupal templates
  • Experience with Sketch
  • Print and/or branding experience
  • Illustration/vector design
  • HTML/CSS/JS
  • Copywriting

COMPENSATION

OMF is offering a base salary of $50,000 annually, in addition to an employer-sponsored HSA and a flexible PTO policy that includes a paid sabbatical after three years.

Employees also receive a free Denver Open Media membership which gives them access to all of the Foundation’s video, audio, and studio production equipment, plus unlimited access to OMF’s training programs.
