Colorado City is a census-designated place and metropolitan district in Pueblo County, Colorado. It is governed by an elected, five-member board of directors and services are managed by an appointed district manager. The first settlement was Cuerno Verde, named after an 18th century Comanche chief. In 1845 it became a trading post then in 1853 it is said that six New Mexican families built an irrigation system to divert water from Greenhorn Creek for their crops. The population of Colorado City CDP is now 2,237 according to the 2020 census.
