Walsenburg, in southern Colorado, was originally settled under the name of La Plaza de Los Leones in 1859. A post office called Walsenburg started operations in1870. Three years later, in1873, City of Walsenburg was incorporated, making it the 7th incorporated municipality of Colorado. The city now has a population of 3,049.
